Event Details

Please join us at the Gunnison Library on Friday, June 21 at 6 pm for a special, free performance by Chaski Quartet.

Chaski Quartet is excited to share their music with the Gunnison community. The members of Chaski Quartet are performers and runners whose performances (and feet) take them around the world. Gunnison native, violinist Sarah Cranor performs with orchestras across the country and directs Tonos del Sur. You might have heard violinist Alejandro Gómez Guillén sing the national anthem at the Patriot Rodeo a few years back. He now joins Chaski between performances as Assistant Conductor of the Omaha Symphony. Colorado native, hiker extraordinaire and principal cellist of New Mexico Philharmonic Amy Huzjak, and former Principal Viola of the West Texas Symphony Han Dewan, who is completing her MD at University of Maryland School of Medicine, complete the ensemble.

The name Chaski Quartet was inspired by the 4th movement, which describes the running messengers of the Andes mountains, who would travel long distances to relay important messages and stories between communities. As musicians who commute a long way to bring music to various communities around the US, and as runners, the image of the chasqui stuck!
